This book came to me about a month or so after my sister was killed. While the circumstances and loss Sonali experienced were vastly different than what I was going through, I felt a deep connection. She touched on the complete senselessness of the world as she felt she was drowning in grief. She shared how she navigated the guilt and anger and helplessness that came with losing her children and husband and parents in such a sudden and horrific manner. She let us see her even as she slid into depression and shut others out. She shared memories that were special to her, even the quiet ones.
I would have loved this book even if it had come into my life before I lost Joy, but reading this helped me feel less alone.
